Here is a breakdown of the key issues Dr. Nila discussed:
Fixing Our Broken Healthcare System: As an acute care hospital physician right here in Hampton Roads, Dr. Nila sees the devastating effects of our system daily. She shared the heartbreaking reality of our veterans facing preventable amputations simply because they are forced to wait up to 9 months for a VA appointment. She is actively fighting for Universal Healthcare and Medicare for All to end this "wartime medicine" in our own communities.
Immediate Economic Relief: Working families are being squeezed by the cost of living. To provide immediate relief, Nila strongly supports the Working Americans Tax Cut Act, which would eliminate federal income tax for individuals making around the national cost of living ($45k-$50k/year), while we work on long-term plans to make billionaires pay their fair share to fund domestic programs.
Ending Congressional Corruption: Nila refuses to take a single dime of Corporate PAC or AIPAC money. She strongly advocates for a complete ban on individual stock trading for members of Congress and supports term limits so politicians don't get entrenched at the expense of everyday working people.
Foreign Policy & Keeping Troops Safe: With a heavy military presence in VA-02, Nila emphasized the importance of not sending our active-duty service members into unauthorized, endless wars driven by corporate or foreign interests.
Breaking Historic Barriers: For 237 years, VA-02 has never been represented by a person of color. Dr. Nila is stepping up to ensure that Congress actually reflects the diverse communities it serves and brings a desperately needed working-class, healthcare-focused perspective to the table.
