ODU Shooting Victim

·

I am deeply saddened by the tragic loss of Lieutenant Colonel Brandon Shah, who was killed in the recent shooting at Old Dominion University.

Lt. Col. Shah was a decorated U.S. Army officer, combat pilot, and professor of military science, serving as the leader of the Army ROTC Monarch Battalion at ODU. He was also an ODU graduate himself, returning to his alma mater to mentor and train the next generation of military leaders.

He had served our country for more than two decades, including deployments supporting operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, and had earned numerous honors for his service and leadership.

He was a dedicated mentor, teacher, and leader, someone who cared deeply about his students and about service to this country. His life was devoted to guiding young men and women who chose the path of service.

As a member of the Hampton Roads community, my heart breaks for his family, his students, his colleagues, and the entire ODU community. A husband, father, veteran, educator, and mentor was taken far too soon.

In moments like this, our community comes together in grief and support. We remember Lt. Col. Shah’s extraordinary service, his commitment to his students, and his legacy.
